In Loving Memory of Mary McFarland
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Mary McFarland, who departed this world on Sunday 10/1/2023, leaving a legacy of love, strength, determination, and an unfaltering entrepreneurial spirit.
Born on February 28, 1947, Mary McFarland was a shining beacon of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She embarked on her journey as an entrepreneur with a fierce determination that defined her character. Her entrepreneurial spirit was nothing short of exceptional, igniting a series of ventures that would forever shape her life and the lives of those she touched.
Mary McFarland began her professional career protecting her fellow citizens as a Special Agent for the Treasury Department. She was responsible for the prevention, detection, and investigation of fraud and abuse to protect the public from those looking to take what did not belong to them.
Once Mary met her goals and challenges working for the Treasury Department, her next step was to pursue a childhood dream of opening a local restaurant. It was here where her culinary talents and warm hospitality became a source of delight for her community. This was not enough for her, being a self-made woman with a passion for expanding her horizons, Mary started a small cleaning service. Through relentless dedication and sheer hard work, this humble business blossomed into an enterprise that served multiple government and private entities across the Midwest, reaching as far as the east coast. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire others were evident in the success of her endeavors.
But Mary McFarland was not content with personal achievements alone; she had an insatiable desire to give back to her community. She embarked on a new phase in her life as an educator, beginning as a Principal at Phillips High School, where she continued to champion the cause of education. And later becoming a teacher at Evanston High School, where students remember her as a mentor and guide who believed in their potential.
In her final professional role, Mary McFarland served as an invaluable resource to educators at the Chicago Teachers Pensioners Fund. Her dedication to ensuring that those who dedicated their lives to teaching were cared for in their retirement years exemplified her selflessness and commitment to the betterment of others.
Mary McFarland leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and an unshakable belief in the power of determination and perseverance. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched.
Mary is survived by her children Aaron and Nicole; her grandchildren; Aaron III, Taylor and Chloe and her husband Wayne.
