Maria Gruettner, 90, formerly of Niles, beloved wife of the late Kurt H.; loving mother of Claudia (Matt) Ulbert, and Tania (Casey) Thomas; cherished stepmother of Juergen (Karin) Gruettner; dear grandmother of Dirk (Jana) and Carsten (Anne) Gruettner, Alec and Austin Ulbert, and Mia and Carter Thomas; devoted great grandmother of Emily, Erik, Sarah, and Jessica; fond sister of the late Fernando Perez and Victoria (Vito) Sanchez. In her younger days, she was a seamstress at Maurice Rochelle in Chicago. She enjoyed her job especially because that is where she met her husband Kurt. After having children, she became a stay at home mom. Once her children became of school age, she decided to go back to work and became a Cafeteria Worker at her childrens' school. Once retired she took up hobbies of gardening and cooking. She enjoyed cooking Mexican dishes and made sure no one went home hungry. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, listening to Mariachi music and watching her telenovelas (Latin American soap operas), and Sábado Gigante (Giant Saturday). She loved to travel and was fortunate to visit Spain, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Florida, Texas, California, Hawaii and other states as the family took many summer road trips.
