Obituary

Joseph Borst, 96, lifelong resident of Morton Grove, IL., passed away on April 24th, 2023 after a hard fought battle from multiple health issues. He was born on May 24, 1926, to Peter and Barbara of Rogers Park,IL. He was the last survivor of the family of 10 children. He married his beloved Dolores (Krucker) on October 14, 1950, and he became the proud father to 5 children, Jody McKeown (the late Michael), Steve (Nancy), Collette (David) Olsen, Tom (Beth), and Nancy (Frank) Englert. He is the devoted grandfather to 6 grandchildren, Katie (James), Sara (Eli), Paul (Jessica), Kristen (Luke), Erik and Mitchell. The loving great-grandfather to 3, Joseph, Ethan and Kai.   Joseph served in the US Navy at the age of 17, during World War II, in the Pacific. He often shared the story of his air craft carrier’s bombing and subsequent sinking, with his family, friends and his senior community in order to teach about the sacrifices of war. After discharge from the Navy, he studied Accounting at Northwestern University. He eventually began his own Tax and Accounting Firm where he enjoyed preparing tax returns for family and friends even to the age of 95. He was registered as an Enrolled Agent with the IRS, earning continuing education credits to the age of 94. He shared his Accounting talents with the community by serving as Treasurer for the Morton Grove Lions Club for many terms. He was an avid Cubs fan. His family will always remember his full-bellied laughter, his goofy manner of dancing and the loving way he serenaded his beloved bride, Dee, of 72 years, with the song, “When Your Old Wedding Ring Was New”. But what we will cherish most of all was how he demonstrated his unconditional love and fatherly understanding and acceptance to each and everyone of us. Visitation at Simkins Funeral Home: 4:00- 8:00 P.M. on Friday,    6251 Dempster Street Morton Grove, IL.   Funeral from chapel Saturday 9:30 a.m. to Saint Martha Catholic Church 8523 Georgiana Avenue Morton Grove, IL.
