Richard G. Maede, of Lindenhurst, born Sept. 1, 1932 at rest Sept. 2, 2015 at Advicate Condell Hospital with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Arlene nee Timm; dear father of Dawn, Sheri (Todd) Kammueller and Brian (Ann); loving grandfather of 9; cherished uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Alfred.
Richard's story began in 1932 in Chicago as the only son of Lillian and Alfred. He spent countless hours watching his beloved Cubbies play ball at Wrigley Field. As a child, he would work to obtain a ticket to a game. Back then, the Cubs offered free tickets to kids who would stay and clean the stands after games. Richard took full advantage of this. He continued to enjoy watching the Cubs throughout his life.
Richard graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1949 where he made the National Honor Society. In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force entering as a A & E Mechanic then moved positions becoming a Technical Instructor. The group was known as the "Air Force Flying Professors." During this time, Richard traveled to different areas where he taught others how to work the new and upcoming electronics. He was honorably discharged in 1954 receiving the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He then attendaed Illinois State Univ. graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. After his schooling, he met and married Arlene Dawn Timm. They have three lovely children, Dawn, Sheri and Brian.
Richard retired from ATT Teletype in 1986 and together with Arlene, opened Quality Hair and Tanning. They worked together with their daughter Dawn for 15 years.
After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and his children and their growing families. He enjoyed traveling, golf, fishing, bowling, the Cubs and riding wooden roller coasters. He also enjoyed gardening and helping at his home church with cutting the grass or whatever needed to be done. He could always be counted on for his warm smile, big heart and providing help to those in need.
Visitation at Simkins Funeral Home 6251 Dempster St. Morton Grove, IL Saturday Sept. 5th from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. Cremation Private.
