Phyllis C.
(Johnston) Petersen
November 23, 1946 – May 18, 2024
Phyllis C "Candi" Petersen Died May 18, 2024 at the age of 77.
Candi grew up in Highland Park and Wilmette. She moved to Glenview in 1972 where she raised her children. She loved them and was very proud of all their accomplishments. To her grandchildren she was known as "Grandi."
Candi was an account representative with GBC in Northbrook for 23 years and a Brand Ambassador for Advantage Marketing. After earning her food safety license she did demos in local stores, which she loved for all the wonderful people she met and got to know and the food ideas she got to share. She also volunteered for a few years with the Northfield Township Food pantry. She strongly believed no one should ever be hungry.
Candi was a volunteer with Shorewood Cocker Rescue from 2008 until 2019. She fostered numerous cocker spaniels and regularly foster failed. Her passion was the older dogs and she had 3 blind dogs. She loved every dog immensely. She also fundraised for the annual Wigglebutt Walk in Wisconsin, which became one of her favorite events of the year.
Spring was Candi's favorite time of the year when the daisies and lilacs are blooming and she looked forward to planting her gardens all winter. She often said she found God in the garden.
Candi is survived by her children, Kimberly of Glenview and William of Carpentersville, her grandchildren, Noah of Huntley, and Kyle who is currently serving in the Persian Gulf, and her dogs, Daisy and Rosebud, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Lois Johnston, her sisters Barbara "Buckey" Johnston-Olson and Suzie Lipp. She joined 13 dogs at the Rainbow Bridge: Brittany, Brandy, Bailey, Buster, Beau, Betsy, Holly, Dexter, Henry, Hannah, Maddie, Sadie, and Lucy.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Northfield Township Food Pantry, 2550 Waukegan Rd #100, Glenview, IL 60025 or the animal charity of your choice.
