Leigh Kimball
Davis
March 1, 2025
Leigh Kimball "Kim" Davis, 85, passed away on March 1, 2025, in Crossville, Tenn. Born on March 26, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minn., Kim was a 1961 graduate of Principia College in Elsah, Ill. Demonstrating what would become a lifelong commitment to service and love of country, he achieved Eagle Scout before he went on to serve as a supply officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Captain.
Kim was a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, and a loving father to his children:. He had two children with his first wife: Shawn (Monica) and Bill (Shannon). Kim and Nancy had three children: Leslie, Marcus (Minatsu), Andrew (Elizabeth). He also was a cherished grandfather to Kelsey, Kyle, Isabelle, Abigail, Lillian, and Rosalind and a proud great-grandfather to Grayson "G-Dub" Alexander. His family was central to his life, and he took great joy in their accomplishments and presence.
As a descendent of the first Mayflower settlers, Kim deeply cared about new beginnings. This passion prompted him to sponsor Laotian refuges seeking asylum during the 1980s. Throughout his career he continuously provided work on his construction crew to those seeking a second chance, standing as godfather to their children and bondsman for their bail. Beyond his professional and military career, Kim had a lifelong passion for sports. He enjoyed basketball as well as cross country and track. An avid National Basketball Association aficionado, at age 11, Kim attended the lowest-scoring regular season NBA game in history. From that experience he was a firm believer in playing hard and driving to the basket. Over the course of three decades he coached sports teams for all his children and countless numbers of their friends. He also served as Den "Mother", chauffeur, and mover for his children and grandchildren. Kim also is survived by his siblings Victoria "Vicki", Marcus (Ann), and Scott (Joan); his brother-in-law Andrew "Buzz" Dahlberg; and many others who were touched by his kindness and wisdom. He was predeceased by his parents, Leigh and Leslie.
As a child, Kim loved road trips out West with his parents and siblings. They visited the family ranch in Montana and spent time at Yellowstone National Park. Later, he would take his children on camping and hiking trips in Yellowstone, giving them the opportunity to create their own memories of shared family experiences. Kim and Nancy continued taking planned road trips and spontaneous excursions as often as possible. A man of integrity and warmth, Kim's legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family and friends, his never-ending spaghetti bowl and famous meatloaf. His memory brings comfort to those who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
