Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest mom, Edith Krok, nee Wohlgemuth, on February 15, 2026, at the age of 95.

Beloved Wife of the late Joseph S. Krok. Loving Mother of Joseph A. (Karen) Krok, Elizabeth A. (Michael) Stout, and the late John F. (Barbara) Krok

Proud Grandmother "Oma" of Eric (Lauren) Stout, Christopher Stout, Elise Stout, Veronica (Mike) Krok-Walker and Nathaniel Krok.

Devoted Sister of the late Elfriede Bischoff. Cherished Daughter of the late Friedrich and Mathilde Wohlgemuth.

"OMA" as she was affectionately referred to by most everyone for over the last 3 decades, was born in Birkenfeld, Germany on December 26, 1930. It is there where she met Joseph Stanley Krok, and married him on March 18, 1950. Shortly afterwards, they emigrated to America and settled in Chicago, where they started their family. Edith and her husband enjoyed 42 years of married life together, before Joseph passed in 1992.

Edith's joy has always been any time spent with family. She embraced all with her beautiful smile, warmth, and genuine interest in your life, and with repeated gratitude for the time spent with her. Edith's German surname, "Wohlgemuth" translates to "happy mood" which couldn't be more appropriate.

All who knew mom or cared for her, heard the story of how she met our dad in Germany, often times reiterated during the same visit, but always received with patient, compassionate and loving ears, for which we are grateful. She loved reminiscing about her youth, looking at videos and photos of cherished memories, and never missed asking about her grandchildren and wishing them well in any conversation. Extremely social, mom enjoyed being with people, either while dining, playing bingo or cards, chit-chatting with fellow senior residents, or watching TV with her group. She has been an integral part of our family, ever present as our children grew up, never missing a sporting or other event, and as such, got to know our close friends and families quite well and was "Oma" to all.

Over the last 8 years, she courageously battled countless setbacks, including cancer, C-2 fractures, and hip surgery, as well as living with the challenges of dementia. A true warrior, mom fought each setback with the most admirable courage, perseverance, humor at times, faith, and the utmost of grace.
