Obituary

Doris Koob (1932 – 2024) formerly of Morton Grove, Illinois , the middle of three daughters of Frank and Clara Boemmel, passed from this life in Sun City, Arizona on September 5th. She raised four sons with Hubert (Bud) Koob, her husband of 32 years who died in 1984; Michael (Sherie) of Frederick, MD, Joseph of Republic, MI, Richard (Pat) of Morton Grove, IL and Thomas (Laura) of Arlington Heights, IL. Joseph and Richard preceded her in death.

She is survived by 11 grandchildren; Elena, Igor, Ella, Anna, Lisa, JoAnne, Jim, Brian, Danny, Jenny, and Nicole, and 13 great grandchildren. She leaves behind a close companion, Warren Simon of Sun City. She is also survived by sisters Joan (the late Vince) Kopinski and Nancy (Bob) Morrison of Morton Grove, Illinois, sister in law Marilyn (Bob) Callaghan of Naperville, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris graduated from Niles Township High School, subsequently known as Niles East. She met Bud on a blind date. They took their sons on memorable trips to Wisconsin and Michigan, and later to the great national parks of the American west towing a camper pop up trailer.

While her boys were young, Doris ran the billing from her kitchen table for John Welter Florist of Wilmette, IL where Bud was a key employee. She subsequently was a teller at The First National Bank of Morton Grove, and drove a school bus for several years after that. With her close friend Dick Dickerson, who preceded her, she traveled all over the USA in Airstream Caravans and to rallies. In her later years, she wintered in Texas, Florida, and Sun City, Arizona before relocating to Sun City. She traveled to many places around the world. Her first European trip, in 1976, included the former East Germany, well before the Berlin Wall came down. Bud and Doris traveled with a German couple she worked with at the bank who had immigrated after the war. On that trip, they experienced the way working folks lived.

She was a member of Saint Martha Catholic Church. She loved programs at the library, senior center, the American Legion, and in her retirement community in Sun City. She was generous with her fantastic chocolate chip cookies. She was always ready to pop a pizza in her oven for her grandkids. She crocheted and enjoyed playing cards and other table games.
