Obituary

Corazon Macabatas Ranola, 68, of Morton Grove, was welcomed into the loving arms of The Lord on April 13.Mrs. Ranola was born on January 5, 1947 in Samar, Philippines. She married Reynaldo Ranola on August 14, 1976. Cora earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, with a concentration in Accounting from Far Eastern University in Manila in 1968. During her professional career, Cora worked at Central Camera and ConAgra Foods.

Cora was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and colleague. Despite the many trials and tribulations that she faced in her life, Cora overcame any and all challenges that stood in her way. She withstood an impoverished upbringing, defeated a diagnosis of Leukemia, and became a role model to her family and friends in the process. She was a devoted Catholic, an active member of St. Martha Catholic Church in Morton Grove, and was a prominent member of the Filipino-American Association of Morton Grove. Cora dedicated much of her time to St. Martha Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She also volunteered her time and energy for various church functions and events throughout the year. Cora was an amazing cook, avid reader, fantastic gardener, and a lover of nature. She enjoyed traveling the world, when given the opportunity. Cora's willingness to help others in need will always be remembered and appreciated by the many lives she touched. Her beauty, courage, intelligence, kindness, sense of style, wit, and playful sense of humor were unparalleled. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.
Cora is survived by her husband Reynaldo; sons William (girlfriend Mary) and Henry (fiancée Lyka); and a large extended family in the U.S., Philippines, and abroad.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Simkins Funeral Home, 6251 Dempster Street in Morton Grove. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 8523 Georgiana Avenue in Morton Grove. Interment will follow at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
