Peter J. Meehan

Deacon Peter Joseph Meehan of Morton Grove, beloved husband of Josephine, nee Durso for 55 years passed away January 15, 2018 at the age of 80 years young.  He is the loving father of Peter (Mary), Patrick (Julie), Joseph (Lisa), Nancy (Paul) Dennis, Cathleen (Mark) Thannert, and Kevin (Carrie); fond grandfather of Kristen, PJ, Lucy, Catherine, Margaret, John, Emily, Jack, Jacqueline, Colin, Aiden, Josie, William, Daniel, Allison, Colin, Luke, Garrett and Dylan; loving brother of Dr. Thomas (Judith), Michael (Maureen), and the late Mary Ann (Tim)Burke.

Nothing was more important to Dad than his family. Fun memories include vacations to Baraboo, Double J Ranch, trips to the candy store, ice cream store, Fannie May (do you see a trend here?),  playing cards, and telling jokes.  He coached numerous sports teams for every single one of his kids – we counted 32.  He loved and lived a life of service which included being a deacon at the St. Martha church for over 25 years.  During this time he served on the parish council, brought communion to the sick, taught pre-cana classes and gave thought provoking homilies.  He will be remembered by many for all the baptisms, weddings, and funerals he presided over.   Dad always spent time to make it personal.  When baptizing children, he loved to bring children up to the baptismal font and get them involved.  In addition to St. Martha, he loved to spend time volunteering at Lutheran General, Little League president, CAA president, and Lions Club.  We will miss his humor, friendship, advice (maybe), and his white v-necked tee shirts. Graduate of the 1951 grade school classof St. Nicholas in Evanston, the 1955 high school class of St. George in Evanston, and the 1959 college class of St. Mary's in Winona, MN.

Funeral from Simkins Funeral Home 6251 Dempster St. Morton Grove, Il 60053 Friday, January 19yh at 10:00 a.m. to St. Martha Church 8523 Georgiana Ave. Morton Grove, IL 60053. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment All Saints Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, January 18th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church appreciated. (847) 965-2500
